Building a Safety Net

This 34 meter diameter (111') round ANSI standard personnel and debris safety net employed 6 people for over a period of 3 1/2 weeks from design to packaging. This net is used in the maintenance and service of a centrifuge silo.

The working area for the start of this project was over 65 feet of table space.

The lines in the net were cut to the desired lengths and laid out for assembly. The longest being 240'.

396 pcs of lines for a total of 46,200 feet of rope was used in the construction of the body of the net. 400 feet of 3/4" rim rope and 90 pcs of snap hooks every 4" around the net

The space needed to put the net together at mid-project
was over 4,300 square feet.

Shown here next to the net is the 40' x 90' 14/55 polypropylene tarp which is to be installed inside the net."

The tarp is installed in a nearby parking lot space required "massive" with the finished product being 348 feet around.

Project completed, the large task will now be the packaging for shipping.

Once the tarp and rim rope were applied the net was folded in sections to ensure safe and secure handling, guarding against damage to the tarp or the rope.

The folding required 12 people to align and position the net to ensure no ripping of the tarp.

Once in the box for shipping, the package weighted in at 2000 lbs. Packed into a 6'6" tall x 4'6" wide box that was 7' long.
